What kind of talent do we pursue?

Zutari’s Renewable Energy team is seeking a senior qualified and experienced electrical or mechanical engineer specialising in utility scale wind, solar, hydro and energy storage projects to be based in our office in Nairobi, Kenya.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an Engineer to be part of a vibrant team, working with exciting clients across a wide range of markets. Applicants should be prepared to have a diverse role, leading engagements with clients, delivering engineering services, sharing knowledge and innovating delivery of our services.

Role Responsibilities

  • Deliver engineering services across a wide range of renewable energy projects (Solar PV Wind and BESS)
  • Contribute to improving and innovating how solutions are designed and delivered (tools, methods, digital ways of working, efficiency improvements)
  • Work with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver complex projects for clients
  • Manage projects and client engagements end-to-end (scope, programme, risks, reporting, stakeholder management)
  • Collaborate with internal specialists across technical and advisory discipline

Engineering Delivery Across Renewable Energy Technologies

  • Deliver engineering services across a wide range of renewable energy projects, including Solar PV, Wind, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and hybrid solutions.
  • Lead or review technical designs, calculations, and specifications to ensure solutions are safe, compliant, and fit for purpose.
  • Provide senior technical input across the full project lifecycle, from concept and feasibility through to commissioning and early operations

Project Management & Client Delivery

  • Manage projects and client engagements end‑to‑end, including scope definition, programme planning, risk management, reporting, and stakeholder coordination.
  • Act as the primary technical interface with clients, contractors, utilities, and regulators throughout project delivery.
  • Ensure projects are delivered in line with agreed technical, commercial, and quality expectations

Multi‑Disciplinary & Specialist Collaboration

  • Work closely with multi‑disciplinary teams (electrical, civil, mechanical, environmental, commercial, and advisory) to deliver complex renewable energy projects.
  • Collaborate with internal specialists across technical and advisory disciplines, including grid, environmental and social, financial, and regulatory experts
  • Coordinate inputs from multiple stakeholders to ensure integrated and coherent technical solutions

Innovation, Tools & Ways of Working

  • Contribute to improving and innovating how renewable energy solutions are designed and delivered, including tools, methodologies, digital ways of working, and efficiency improvements
  • Identify opportunities to standardise, optimise, and streamline technical processes and project delivery approaches.
  • Support the adoption of new technologies, modelling tools, and best practices relevant to the Kenyan and regional renewable energy market.

Technical Assurance, Risk & Compliance

  • Identify and manage technical, construction, and operational risks across renewable energy projects.
  • Ensure compliance with Kenyan regulations, international standards, grid codes, and lender technical requirements.
  • Support or lead technical due diligence activities for investors, lenders, and development partners.

Mentorship & Technical Leadership

  • Provide technical guidance, quality assurance, and mentorship to junior and mid‑level engineers.
  • Set and uphold technical standards and best practices across renewable energy projects.
  • Contribute to building long‑term renewable energy engineering capability within the organisation.


Minimum requirements
 

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering
  • Professional Registration with local body
  • 8-15 years’ relevant experience, preferably in a consulting environment
  • Proven experience delivering renewable energy projects, specifically Solar PV, Wind and BESS (e.g., development, design, owner’s engineer, EPC support, construction/commissioning support).
  • Experience in early-stage renewable project development, including prospecting and energy modelling.


Skills, and characteristics 

  • Ms Office Proficiency: (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • Communication skills: Ability to engage effectively with management and employees at all levels.
  • Project management skills: (planning, execution, reporting, stakeholder coordination)
  • Basic understanding of Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) and EPC contracts
  • Ability to design, review, and deliver renewable energy solutions across Solar PV, Wind, and Battery Energy Storage Systems, ensuring they are technically sound and compliant.
  • Ability to manage projects and client engagements end‑to‑end, including scope, timelines, risks, reporting, and stakeholder expectations. Ability to improve how work is done by adopting better tools, methods, and digital ways of working to increase efficiency and quality.
  • Interpersonal and Communication skills:
  • Client Engagement: Ability to build strong relationships and problem solving.
  • Organisational Skills: Capable of maintaining structured filing systems and tracking legal timelines.
  • Time Management: Skilled in managing multiple tasks, deadlines, and priorities efficiently.
  •  Legal Document Management: Ability to prepare, format, proofread, and organize legal documents with precision. Familiarity with legal terminology and document types (e.g., contracts, pleadings, affidavits).
  • Technical & Professional Mastery: Demonstrates deep expertise in renewable energy engineering and applies sound judgement to complex Solar PV, Wind, and BESS challenges across the full project lifecycle.
  • Client & Project Ownership: Takes full accountability for delivering projects and client engagements end‑to‑end, balancing quality, time, cost, and risk while maintaining strong client relationships.
  • Collaborative Delivery: Works effectively across disciplines and functions, integrating inputs from engineers, advisors, and specialists to deliver coherent, high‑quality solutions.
  • Innovation & Improvement Mindset: Continuously improves how work is done by introducing better tools, methods, and digital practices that enhance efficiency, consistency, and delivery outcomes.
