Description

Zutari: Co-creating an engineered impact.

Zutari is a well-established, management-owned engineering firm with almost 90 years' experience. As human-centred engineering consultants and advisors, we are trusted by our clients, business partners, communities and other stakeholders across Africa.

We co-create engineering solutions that have a positive impact and improve people's lives. Zutari values inclusion and recognises the importance of a diverse, talented workforce, believing that people need other people to succeed.

What kind of talent do we pursue?

We employ people with the right attitude and a positive mindset, who are motivated by doing the right thing, getting things done and share a sense of urgency. People who have an impact in our teams and broader community. People who think differently and connect with those around them to co-create new opportunities and leave a meaningful legacy.

Role overview

We are seeking an experienced BIM / Information Manager to lead the day‑to‑day management, governance, and quality assurance of project information and BIM processes on a large, multi‑disciplinary infrastructure programme. The successful candidate will ensure that all information and model deliverables are well‑structured, coordinated, compliant, traceable, and fit‑for‑purpose throughout the project lifecycle, including design, procurement, construction, and handover. This is a leadership and governance role, focused on how information is managed and assured—not on producing designs, managing budgets, or controlling programme schedules.

Role responsibilities

BIM & Information Requirements

  • Own and maintain the project BIM Execution Plan (BEP) and associated documents.
  • Define and control:
    • Information standards and protocols
    • Naming conventions and file structures
    • Classification systems
    • Status and revision coding
    • Level of Information Need (LOIN) requirements
  • Ensure information requirements remain current and aligned to the project stage and programme.

Information Planning & Delivery

  • Maintain information delivery schedules (e.g. MIDP / TIDP or equivalent), ensuring clarity of:
    • Responsibilities
    • Required deliverables
    • Planned issue dates
  • Monitor upcoming information milestones and highlight risks or clashes early.

Digital Strategy Implementation

  • Translate the programme’s digital and BIM strategy into clear working procedures for:
    • Designers and discipline teams
    • Contractors and EPC delivery teams
  • Define how information should be:
    • Created and reviewed
    • Approved and issued
    • Exchanged and packaged (models, drawings, registers, reports)
  • Support onboarding of new team members and organisations into the project’s information environment.

Governance & Coordination

  • Lead regular BIM / information coordination meetings.
  • Track actions and resolve information‑related issues.
  • Run information stage‑gate reviews, managing the formal sign‑off process for project submissions.
  • Ensure only compliant, complete information is issued to the client, authorities, or contractors.

Quality Assurance & Compliance

  • Monitor and enforce compliance with BIM and information standards through:
    • Planned audits
    • Routine checks (naming, metadata, revisions, completeness, LOIN compliance)
  • Coordinate corrective actions with discipline leads, BIM Coordinators, and contractors.
  • Log information non‑conformances and track their resolution.

CDE Coordination & Interfaces

  • Work closely with:
    • CDE & Standards Manager
    • BIM Coordinator(s)
    • Document Control / PMO
    • Stakeholder & Communications teams
  • Act as the first point of contact for information management queries.
  • Support continuous improvement of information processes across the project.

Reporting

  • Provide clear weekly and monthly updates to project leadership covering:
    • Information compliance status
    • Upcoming deliverables and reviews
    • Key risks or gaps
    • Overall information maturity

Minimum requirements

  • Degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, BIM, or a related field.
  • 7–10+ years’ experience in BIM or information management on large infrastructure or complex construction projects.
  • Experience working in multi‑disciplinary, multi‑organisation environments (e.g. EPC, joint ventures, alliances).

Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong understanding of:
    • BIM Execution Planning
    • Information standards and naming conventions
    • Level of Information Need (LOIN)
    • ISO 19650‑aligned information management principles
  • Ability to translate complex digital requirements into clear operational procedures.
  • Strong coordination, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

Systems & Tools

  • Experience using Common Data Environments, such as:
    • Autodesk Construction Cloud / BIM 360
    • Bentley ProjectWise
    • Asite (or similar)
  • Familiarity with BIM coordination tools such as Navisworks or Solibri.
  • Confident in reporting and documenting information processes.

We believe that a diverse workforce is key to our business success.  We seek the best people for our jobs based on their skills, qualifications, and experience.  We embrace the principle of equal opportunity in employment, and we work towards eliminating all forms of unlawful discrimination in our employment practices.  In support of diversity and the equal opportunity principle, preference will be given to individuals from designated groups within South Africa.
