Key Responsibilities:

• Business development activities, including identifying opportunities, proposal preparation, and client relationship management (very key).
• Engineering management and leadership of multi-disciplinary engineering teams specialising in roads and transportation infrastructure.
• Comprehensive project management, including scope, budget control, and resource allocation.
• Timely and high-quality delivery of design and construction phases for roads and transportation projects.
• Building and maintaining trust-based relationships with government and private sector clients.
• Demonstrating expertise in roads engineering, contributing actively to business development and securing new projects.
• Development and implementation of innovative engineering solutions, emphasising digital workflows, enhanced efficiencies, and design optimisation.
• Typical engineering responsibilities in roads infrastructure, executed directly or through teams under your supervision, including:
  • Complex roads and transportation design tasks, investigations, and analyses.
  • Geometric and pavement design for roads and highways.
  • Stormwater management and drainage design for roads projects.
  • Preparation of comprehensive engineering reports.
  • Preparation of tender documentation, specifications, and procurement management.
  • Contract administration and oversight during project execution.
• Mentoring, guiding, and managing junior engineers, technologists, and technicians.
• Effective collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, both internally and externally, across various geographical regions.
• Ensuring all project activities meet Zutari’s quality control standards and procedures.

Minimum Requirements:

• B Eng, BSc (Eng), or B-Tech in Civil Engineering.
• Professional registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineer or Professional Engineering Technologist.
• A minimum of ten years of experience in roads and transportation infrastructure engineering, including experience with government and private sector clients.
• Very strong strategic mindset with proven strategic planning and decision-making capabilities.
• Strong design capability and experience in roads, highways, and transportation projects.
• Excellent time management and organisational skills, capable of managing multiple projects concurrently.
• Proven experience and ability to lead project teams effectively.
• Ability and experience in meeting clients face-to-face and managing client relationships directly.
• Experience in invoicing and financial management with government clients.
• A valid driver’s licence.

Advantageous Competencies:

• Experience managing profit and loss (P&L) responsibilities on engineering projects.
• Master’s degree or postgraduate qualification in transportation engineering or related discipline.
• Experience in advanced design software and digital tools specific to roads and transportation engineering.
• Registration as a Professional Construction Project Manager (PrCPM) with SACPCMP and/or Project Management Professional (PMP) certification with PMI.
• Proven track record in successful business development and client relationship management in both government and private sectors.
