Key Responsibilities:

  • Assisting the Resident Engineer with full-time on-site supervision and management of roads and transportation construction projects.
  • Ensuring adherence to project specifications, design drawings, and relevant standards.
  • Monitoring construction progress and quality control under the supervision of the Resident Engineer.
  • Conducting regular site inspections and assisting with the preparation of site instructions.
  • Coordinating daily activities with contractors, consultants, clients, and stakeholders as guided by the Resident Engineer.
  • Assisting in the preparation and management of daily, weekly, and monthly site reports in compliance with North West Public Works standards.
  • Managing construction documentation and maintaining accurate site records following government auditing requirements.
  • Supporting health, safety, and environmental compliance activities on-site.
  • Assisting in managing contractual claims, variations, and certification of contractor payments.
  • Facilitating clear and effective communication between the site team, design office, and clients.
  • Supporting adherence to government procurement processes and compliance requirements.
  • Familiarity and compliance with CIDB guidelines and tender management.

Minimum Requirements:

  • National Diploma, B-Tech, B Eng, or BSc (Eng) in Civil Engineering.
  • Registration as a Candidate Engineer or Technologist with ECSA (Professional registration advantageous).
  • Minimum of five years of relevant experience as an Assistant Resident Engineer or similar role in roads and transportation projects.
  • Sound technical knowledge of roads construction methods, materials, and standards.
  • Good understanding of contract administration and contractor management processes.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organisational abilities and time management skills.
  • Problem-solving skills to support the resolution of on-site technical issues.
  • Valid driver’s licence.

Advantageous Competencies:

  • Prior experience with government and private sector roads construction projects.
  • Additional training or certification in construction or project management.
  • Familiarity with relevant construction and project management software.
  • Experience in budgeting and reporting aligned with government standards.
