Description

Zutari: Co-creating an engineered impact.

Zutari is a well-established, management-owned engineering firm with over 90 years of experience. As human-centred engineering consultants and advisors, we are trusted by our clients, business partners, communities and other stakeholders across Africa and the Middle East.

We co-create engineering solutions that have a positive impact and improve people’s lives. Zutari values inclusion and recognises the importance of a diverse, talented workforce, believing that people need other people to succeed.

What kind of talent do we pursue?

We employ people with the right attitude and a positive mindset, who are motivated by doing the right thing, getting things done and sharing a sense of urgency. People who have an impact on our teams and the broader community. People who think differently and connect with those around them to co-create new opportunities and leave a meaningful legacy

About the Roles.

Zutari is looking for Electrical Site Representatives to join the Owner’s Engineer (OE) team on various utility-scale renewable energy projects across a number of provinces in (Western Cape, Northern Cape, Free State & Eastern Cape) South Africa.

These site roles are critical to ensuring that all electrical works from LV/MV/HV installations through to commissioning and completion are constructed in full compliance with the contract, design specifications, and applicable national standards.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on electrical engineer with strong construction oversight experience and a proven track record on large-scale energy or infrastructure projects. These positions are available on projects located across different regions of South Africa, offering an opportunity to contribute to the country’s growing renewable energy sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Represent the Owner’s Engineer on-site during construction and commissioning of all electrical systems.
  • Oversee and inspect electrical installation works, including MV/HV switchgear, transformers, cabling, protection systems, and SCADA integration.
  • Monitor EPC contractor performance, ensuring compliance with employers’ requirements, design, technical specs, and timelines.
  • Enforce quality assurance processes, test protocols, and corrective action measures.
  • Witness FATs and SATs where required, ensuring functional and safe electrical commissioning.
  • Support interface management between civil, mechanical, and electrical workstreams.
  • Report regularly on progress, risks, deviations, and HSE issues.
  • Maintain a detailed site log and compile structured daily/weekly progress reports.
  • Attend site meetings and represent OE interests in all technical discussions.

Minimum Requirements

  • BEng, BTech, or ND in Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum 7 years of on-site experience with electrical systems. Prior renewable energy experience across Wind, Solar PV or BESS in the power or infrastructure sector is highly advantageous.
  • 2 completed utility-scale energy projects in a construction supervision or OE role will be highly advantageous.
  • Solid understanding of MV and HV systems, and electrical commissioning procedures.
  • Strong command of QA/QC documentation and HSE compliance.
  • Able to interpret single-line diagrams, technical drawings, and electrical specifications.

We believe that a diverse workforce is critical to our business success.  We seek the best people for our jobs based on their skills, qualifications, and experience.  We embrace the principle of equal opportunity in employment, and we work towards eliminating all forms of unlawful discrimination in our employment practices.  In support of diversity and the equal opportunity principle, preference will be given to individuals from designated groups within South Africa.
