Responsible for full transactions processing of the unit including PFA duties, billings to clients, debtors, payments of expenses, creditors, journal and journal adjustments, provisions and accruals, debtors collections and other ad hoc duties in support of the Finance Team and local office and operational teams

Key Responsibilities:

Tax submissions & Reconciliations (VAT, WHT, Payroll Taxes)

  • VAT – Calculate and reconcile VAT and submit for approval by Tax Manager
  • WHT – Calculate and Reconcile WHT where applicable and submit for approval
  • PAYE - Calculate PAYE and calculate to include travel claims and other benefits/reimbursements – communicate with Payroll team

GL Accounts Reconciliations

  • Reconcile General Ledger Accounts (Income statement and Balance Sheet)
  • Properly document reconciling items with source documents
  • Clear reconciling items (current and legacy)
  • Ensure reconciling items do not exceed 3 months
  • Clear all reconciling items as soon as possible

Tax Reconciliations (VAT, WHT, PAYE etc.)

  • Reconcile Revenue Authority submissions to General Ledger
  • Ensure that any discrepancies are corrected in GL when identified
  • Properly document reconciling items with source documents

Financial Accounting

  • AP invoice transaction Project AP Invoice Coding to GL account, project, phase and task
  • Overhead AP Invoice Coding to GL account, project, phase and task
  • Allocation of project and overhead costs
  • Monthly Journals General Ledger
  • Banking
    • Bank Reconciliation, weekly
    • Petty cash reconciliation, weekly
    • Loading of payments to vendors
    • Loading of statutory and regulatory payments

Cashflow forecasting

  • Collection of information form Country Manager and accounting records to establish the amount of cash required for a period/s (1 – 12 months))

Employees/Payroll support

    • Processing of employee timesheets (project/site staff)
    • Processing of cash advance claims (Expense Reports)
    • Processing of claims for reimbursement of expenses/reconciliation of cash advance applied
    • Ensure monthly payments and recon lists are done and submitted to service providers for Medical Aid funds, Provident Fund, SSC, NTA, NamRa
    • Employee timesheet control and billable time checks
    • Affirmative Action Report drafting and filing
    • Must have knowledge of local labour legislation to assist with contracts for new appointments and labour related matters.

Project Financial Accountant Function

    • Assistance with  project registrations on Vantage Point
    • Calculate and adjust budgets on weekly basis
    • Analyse project labour movements
    • Process invoices to clients
    • Calculations for Revenue Recognition
    • Analyse billings in advance and apply
    • Ensure payment of subconsultants
    • Transfer time between projects, phases and tasks
    • Monitor negative variances and backlog in past daily
    • Ensure all WIP is billed
    • Monthly analysis of projects and reporting to local directors

Assistance to Business on Financial Information:

    • Provide support to business units by offering financial information and analysis as needed
    • Provide guidance/ adherence in line with the DOA

Ad hoc

    • Assistance with Financial year-end
    • Assistance with Auditor queries and audit documentation to external auditors
    • Collection and delivery of financial documents where necessary
    • Attendance at Revenue Authority and other regulatory authority as needed
    • Any other tasks as reasonably required

Minimum requirements

    • Matric
      B.Com Accounting Degree
    • Minimum of 7 years work experience in a similar role


Skills and characteristics

Software Skills

    • Excel: Strong knowledge of Excel and Excel functions and formulas including V/H/Xlookup, IF functions, Pivots, Index, Match, Search, Left/Right/Mid, Tables. Table Queries/Power Query advantageous. Advanced.
    • MS Office Applications (Word, Outlook, Powerpoint, Teams etc.) Advanced
    • Deltek Vantagepoint ERP (Highly Advantageous)
    • Project Management software (Deltek Vantagepoint, Monograph, BQE Core, BST Global ERP, Asana)

Personal Skills

    • Academic Accounting Qualification NQF 7 or equivalent or relevant work experience
    • Knowledge of proper document retention and filing of documents for audit purposes
    • Interpersonal and communication skills
    • Problem-solving skills
    • Knowledge of local regulations and laws applicable to finance and taxes
    • Accuracy and attention to detail
    • Ability to own a problem and take active steps to resolve it
    • Adapt very well to changes & environment 
    • Good planning & organizational skills 
    • Deadline driven & ability to work under pressure
